This Privacy Policy explains how MDTools ("we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use our website at https://markdowntoword.getinfotoyou.com. We have designed MDTools with privacy as a core principle, not an afterthought.

1. What Data We Collect

Document Data — We Collect None

All Markdown conversions, document uploads, and file processing on MDTools happen entirely within your web browser using JavaScript. No document content, Markdown text, Word files, Excel files, or any file you process is ever transmitted to our servers. We are architecturally incapable of seeing your document content because it never leaves your device.

Contact Form Data

If you use the contact form on our Contact page, we collect your name and email address solely to respond to your message. This information is:

  • Used only to reply to your specific enquiry
  • Never shared, sold, or disclosed to third parties
  • Retained only as long as necessary to resolve your enquiry
  • Deleted upon your request — email us at getinfotoyou@gmail.com

2. Cookies

MDTools uses one type of browser storage:

  • Theme preference — We store your light/dark mode preference in your browser's localStorage. This is not a cookie; it never leaves your device and is not transmitted to any server. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's local storage.

We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party analytics cookies by default.

3. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymous usage statistics — page views, session duration, and general geographic region (country level only). We have enabled IP anonymisation, which means your full IP address is never stored by Google Analytics.

Google Analytics data helps us understand which tools are most useful and how to improve the site. It does not identify you personally. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

4. Google AdSense

MDTools currently does not display advertisements (SHOW_ADS = false). When and if advertising is enabled in the future, Google AdSense may use cookies to serve personalised ads based on your browsing history. You will be notified of this change, and this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly.

When ads are enabled, you can manage Google's ad personalisation settings at adssettings.google.com.

5. Third-Party JavaScript Libraries

Our converter tools rely on open-source JavaScript libraries loaded from Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). These libraries process your data locally in your browser and do not send your document content anywhere. The libraries and their CDN sources are:

  • marked.js — loaded from cdn.jsdelivr.net (Markdown parsing)
  • docx.js — loaded from cdn.jsdelivr.net (Word document generation)
  • jsPDF + html2canvas — loaded from cdnjs.cloudflare.com (PDF generation)
  • Mammoth.js — loaded from cdn.jsdelivr.net (Word document reading)
  • Turndown — loaded from cdn.jsdelivr.net (HTML to Markdown conversion)
  • SheetJS (XLSX) — loaded from cdn.sheetjs.com (Excel processing)

When your browser loads these libraries, the CDN provider may log your IP address as part of standard server access logs. This is standard CDN behaviour and is not specific to MDTools.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under GDPR, CCPA, or other privacy laws including:

  • The right to access personal data we hold about you
  • The right to request deletion of your contact form data
  • The right to object to processing of your data

7. Children's Privacy

MDTools is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our contact form, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of MDTools after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
