About MDTools
A free, browser-based Markdown conversion platform built for developers, writers, and technical teams.
Last Updated: June 2025
Our Mission
We believe formatting tools should be free, fast, and private. Too many document conversion tools require accounts, subscriptions, or server uploads just to do something as simple as converting a Markdown file to Word format. MDTools was built to fix that.
Every tool on MDTools runs entirely in your web browser. Your documents never touch our servers — not because we ask you to trust us, but because we've built the architecture so that server transmission is architecturally impossible. The JavaScript runs locally, the conversion happens locally, and the output file is saved locally. We never see your content.
Why Browser-Only Matters
When you use a cloud-based document converter, your files are uploaded to a third-party server — often in another country, under different privacy laws, retained for unknown periods. You have no visibility into what happens to your documents after upload.
With MDTools, the situation is fundamentally different. Your Markdown content, Word documents, Excel files, and any other data you process never leaves your browser tab. This is especially important for:
- Legal and compliance documents
- Internal business documentation
- Academic papers and research
- Client deliverables under NDA
- Any content you'd prefer to keep private
What MDTools Does
MDTools is a suite of seven free Markdown conversion tools, each specialising in a specific conversion direction:
The flagship tool. Converts MD to fully formatted Word documents with native heading styles, tables, and code blocks.
Exports Markdown to print-ready A4 PDF with clean typography and multi-page support.
Converts .docx files to clean, portable Markdown text. Ideal for migrating to Git-based workflows.
Outputs clean HTML with live preview. Includes "Copy for Word" for direct paste into Word or WPS Office.
Converts HTML to readable Markdown. Perfect for CMS migrations and content portability.
Converts GitHub-style Markdown tables to .xlsx spreadsheets with auto-sized columns.
Uploads .xlsx, .xls, or .csv files and outputs a properly formatted Markdown pipe table.
Who MDTools Is For
💻 Developers
Convert README files, technical specs, and API documentation from Markdown to Word for client handoffs or stakeholder reviews. Use the Word-to-Markdown tool to migrate legacy Word docs into version-controllable Markdown.
✍️ Technical Writers
Write documentation in Markdown for its portability, then export to DOCX for clients who require Word format or need to add tracked changes and comments before final delivery.
🎓 Students & Academics
Write essays, research papers, and theses in Markdown using any text editor, then convert to Word format for submission to professors, journals, or academic portals that require .docx files.
🏢 Business Teams
Create proposals, meeting notes, and project plans in Markdown, then deliver polished Word documents to colleagues and clients. No Word licence required to write — only to deliver.
📊 Data Teams
Use the Excel-to-Markdown and Markdown-to-Excel tools to move tabular data between spreadsheets and documentation systems without copy-paste errors or manual reformatting.
🌐 Content Creators
Convert between HTML and Markdown for CMS migrations, static site generation, and content repurposing. Export final content to PDF for readers who prefer downloadable documents.
The MDTools Team
MDTools is developed and maintained by a small team of software engineers and technical writers who use Markdown daily in their own work. We built these tools because we kept running into the same frustrations: cloud converters requiring accounts, paid tools with unnecessary subscriptions, and open-source command-line tools that were inaccessible to non-developers.
Our team has collective experience in document processing systems, developer tooling, and technical documentation. We deeply understand the workflows of developers, technical writers, and content teams — because we live those workflows ourselves.
MDTools is part of the GetInfoToYou tools ecosystem — a collection of free, browser-based productivity tools designed to solve real problems without unnecessary friction, cost, or privacy compromise.
